Midcentury stylish Kent Lake House

"An amazing lakeside retreat by Amy Lau, filled to the brim with premium vintage modernist design.

From writer Fred A. Bernstein:"A founder of Design Miami, Lau has an encyclopedic knowledge of 20th-century decorative arts. In implementing her plan for the Scheidts’ house, Lau says, she was as much a curator as a decorator, including pieces by both well-known designers (the sectional sofa is by Edward Wormley for Dunbar) and lesser-known greats like Denmark’s Greta Jalk, who designed the swoopy chair and ottoman. Thanks to the architecture—which is restrained, modern and at the same time lively—the furniture feels right at home."

The swoopy lounge chair is actually by Vladimir Kagan, though the ottoman is probably Jalk. Also included in this carefully selected collection of vintage furnishings are a T.H Robsjohn-Gibbings coffee table; an Arredoluce brass floor lamp; a Curtis Jere wall mirror above a Florence Knoll hanging cabinet and Edward Wormley stools; a set of Timo Sarpaneva candlesticks on a Jens Risom dining table surrounded by Hans Wegner wishbone chairs, Erik Buck barstools and Jens Quistgaard ice buckets; a Hans Wegner armchair paired with a Gilbert Waltrous desk lamp; George Nelson beds with Paul McCobbPlanner Group dresser, nightstand, and benches; and a Sori YanagiButterfly stool in the hall.Photographed by Joshua McHugh, see the full slide show here."

About Ole Wanscher (1903-1985)

To my point of view, Ole Wanscher's armchairs are really elegant...

1960

"This Ole Wanscher teak settee and lounge chair, very rare model designed for  Cado, featuring concave seat panels, sculpted armrests, and saber-flared legs. Elegant and refined, the lineage of this design can be traced to Wascher's earlier classically-influenced Colonial Chair for P. Jeppesen, and to the knock-down construction of his models for France & Son" (http://thenorthelevation.blogspot.com/2011/08/fresh-finds-ole-wanscher-aj-donahue-art.html & http://modernlove20.com/2009_freshfinds.htm)

His coffee tables are refined :

This one is a folding coffee table designed in 1951

And this jewelrybox in rosewood is one of my favourite :

"Words like delicate, elegant and orderly come to mind when describing the designs of Ole Wanscher (1903–1985). Wanscher was a student of Kaare Klint, and later followed in his footsteps as Professor at the Furniture School at the Royal Academy in Copenhagen.
Like Klint, he was inspired by classical furniture, and he possessed a great interest in and knowledge about, not only English 18th century furniture, but also early Egyptian furniture. (...)  Although Ole Wanscher took great interest in industrially made furniture and designed several pieces with this in mind, his finest work were made in collaboration with master cabinetmaker A. J. Iversen." (http://www.danish-furniture.com/designers/ole-wanscher/#ole-wanscher-easy-chair)

Inspiring teak & palissander chairs by Arne Jacobsen

"The primary factor is proportions. Proportions are what makes the old Greek temples classic in their beauty. They are like huge blocks, from which the air has been literally hewn out between the columns.

Whether one looks at a baroque, renaissance or contemporary building - the buildings that one enjoys to look at, the ones that one admires, are all well-proportioned, that is absolutely essential. Next comes the material - not mixing the wrong materials. And out of this comes, of course, the colour - and, in sum, the overall impression."
